Professional Marine Science Services (PMSS), an Aquatic Environmental Consultancy specialising in marine and coastal applications, is this month celebrating its first year of operation as part of the Professional Divers Group.
To date, PMSS have been involved in a number of projects across a variety of industries including the following:
Six Year Post Construction Survey of Deep Reef Habitat at the Entrance of Port Phillip Bay
PMSS are particularly proud of works completed for the Deep Reef Environmental Surveys of Port Phillip Heads deep reefs as part of the six year post-dredging assessments of Port Phillip Bay. Our experienced personnel have a long history involved in this project and a passion for our biodiverse deep reef ecosystems located in Port Phillip Heads (pictured). PMSS were engaged to lead a team of contractors including a close working partnership with Cardno Ecology Lab to complete underwater reef monitoring surveys and reporting. We used diver video, ROV surveys and video analysis techniques to extract biological data enabling analysis and final reporting of the project.
Biopower Technologies Wave Energy Project, Port Fairy
PMSS are proud of our ongoing involvement in a world first pilot project for renewable wave generated energy in South-Western Victoria. PMSS and PDS have an ongoing relationship since 2008 completing subsea and coastal works for BioPower Technologies, BioWAVE project (pictured). These works have included environmental design surveys, sediment sampling, mapping surveys and installation works completed successfully and safely in this challenging marine environment.
Victorian Desalination Project
Our company has a successful ongoing relationship with Watersure and the Victorian Desalinisation Project at Wonthaggi. We have completed works including biological inspections and sampling, infrastructure monitoring, water quality and hydrological sampling such as ADCP current meters (pictured) and WQ loggers. We are happy to say this is an ongoing relationship with our company due to our successful and safe completion of subsea works and reporting deliverables for the project.
Martha Cove Bathymetry Mapping
In 2015 – 2016 PMSS completed the Martha Cove Ecological Survey and Bathymetry seafloor survey for the marina. PMSS enjoy a close working relationship with many port facilities within Port Phillip Bay and around coastal Victoria, South Australia and New South Wales. The Martha Cove works involved high resolution seafloor sonar surveys (pictured) and scientific diving for environmental monitoring of ecosystems within the marina.
Port of Melbourne Channel Deepening Project
PMSS divers have been assisting in the collection of environmental data for the planning, execution and monitoring of the Port of Melbourne Channel Deepening Project since 1997. The final stages of this project involves routine biological inspection surveys of Dredge Material Grounds (DMG). Qualified scientific divers and high resolution underwater video equipment are used to complete sediment and biota inspection surveys of the DMGs.
Port Phillip Bay Live Scallop Fishery Surveys
In 2015, PMSS were engaged to complete independent fisheries surveys for the Live Scallop fishery operating in Port Phillip Bay. Over several weeks our scientific dive team successful and safely completed scallop surveys at various predetermined sampling sites within Port Phillip Bay. Project deliverables included punctual completion of technical reports concerning scallop abundance and biomass distributions within the fisheries zones sampled as part of the survey.
Lockheed Martin and Ocean Power Technologies Portland Wave Energy Project
PMSS were appointed by LM & OPT to advise and manage the environmental assessment and pre construction investigation phase of its Portland Wave Energy Project. These works involved oceanographic, hydrographic, maritime & cultural heritage studies, marine flora and fauna investigations and community consultation.
