West Channel Beacons

Professional Diving Services has recently conducted condition assessments of navigation beacons for Parks Victoria in the West Channel, Port Phillip Bay.

Technical approach to the assessments used the Wharf Structure Condition Assessment Manual (WSCAM), non-destructive testing techniques (potential testing, ultrasonic thickness testing, dimensional measurements) and visual inspection. Challenges safely overcome include working around short slack water windows, fast currents, winter weather and heavy marine growth.

Key outcomes reported on include current performance of corrosion protection systems (anodes and coatings) and maintenance recommendations.
